How do I download video from my Digital Video Camera recorder(AG-DVX100) to my MacBook Pro?

I am trying to download video from my Panasonic Digital Video Camera Recorder (Model AG-DVX100) onto my Macbook Pro. The camera records to MiniDV tapes. I have a firewire that should be working, but when I connect it to the computer it doesn’t recognize that anything is connected.

Hi. You first need software on your MacBook to "talk to" your video camera. There are several applications that will work fine. Some are inexpensive and may already be on your computer (iMovie, iPhoto). Others are more professional (Final Cut Pro / Express).
Launch one of these applications and you should be on your way.
BTW I think iPhoto uses USB but all the rest should work with Firewire.
Make sure your camera is turned on and in playback mode when you launch your application. Also make sure your firewire cable is good quality and has a good connection. Occasionally a firewire cable just won’t work and needs to be replaced.
I hope this helps.
